In this position I was in charge of internal and external communications of the association. I reported to the Executive Director as well as to the Board and was responsible for the outcome of communication activities. I was also in charge of building and maintaining working media relations, driving marketing initiatives (incl. digital marketing) as well as social media activities and worked as editor-in-chief for the organisation's online publications. Also aspects of advocacy and organisational communications where present in this position. Mastering digital marketing as well as social media were essential to succeed in this post. The job included active contribution to specific public awareness-raising campaigns and skills in website development, since a complete website refresh was rolled out during my time in the organisation.This position included both strategic and operative communication activities. As the Communication Specialist I was in charge of the implementation of the association's strategy in terms of external communications and the official communication channels. Coordination of daily communication activities was an important part of daily work, thus creativity, persistence and good networking skills were essential to succeed in this position, in addition to excellent project management skills.During my time in this organisation I crafted countless publications for public awareness-raising and advocacy purposes; such as written speeches, articles, blog posts, advertorials and statements. I was involved in organising stakeholder events, worked with SEO, purchased outsourced services for digital and print use, edited content, negotiated partnerships, instructed trainees and part-timers, raised funding, wrote reports and engaged stakeholders to the work of the organisation. After 2015, The Sustainable Development Goals were a central substantial focus in this position.

I had the opportunity to film and edit a short documentary about a Finnish-Ugandan community art project 'the Front Row Place of One's Own Life' in Kireka slum in Kampala, Uganda. This included planning, shooting and post-production the video footage together with the project's working team.

The work included collecting background information, conducting interviews, editing and writing and anchoring radio news broadcasts on air.To succeed in a reporter's work, one needs to be collaborative, effective and have the strongest eye on detail. The degree of autonomy in this role was high which meant one had to rely highly on own judgement even in uncertain situations. This enhanced my ability to make fast decisions, work successfully under pressure and master various digital tools simultaneously with demanding deadlines, sometimes extremely tight.

I was an intern at the United Nations Headquarters in the Department of Public Information (DPI), Media Accreditation and Liaison Unit (MALU). As part of the media liaison team, my responsibilities included providing liaison services to the more than 1200 media who have permanent accreditation to the United Nations. This involved assistance in the coordination of photo-opportunities, media briefings, press conferences and production shoots. During my stay in the UN, I provided liaison services to countless journalists during a number of high-level meetings of Foreign Ministers, Heads of States and Governments as well as a number of critical sessions of the Security Council. These meetings attracted a large number of journalists with accreditation to the UN, often on tight deadlines. This interesting and unique opportunity to assist media professionals from all around the world taught me greatly about intercultural communication as well as diplomacy and geopolitics - but also about teamwork in a multicultural workplace.
