Mechanical Engineer
CurrentThe part I enjoy most about my current position is the creative freedom granted in the development phase of a new product or testing device; after defining the critical variables and constraints I can let my imagination go wild thinking of solutions. Whether browsing catalogues for standard parts or designing parts to be manufactured in house, the chosen concept will be iterated on until it is functional and aesthetic. I verify calculations by setting up FEA simulations to determine effects caused by varying loading conditions. I am able to take the concept from the 3D design environment and create engineering drawings to guide the production effectively while considering different manufacturing methods, be it: sheet metal bending, laser cutting, CNC milling or turning, and welding. I have gained knowledge in the design of sheet metal joining by means of rivets, rivnuts, clinch nuts, spot welds, tab joints, and adhesive bonding.If I’m not in the design space, I am investigating other projects by helping my team develop Acceptance Test Procedures for new products or writing Standard Operating Procedures for new testing devices. Experimental procedures don’t write themselves and data still needs to be analysed.Sometimes work is away from the office. I could be in the field working on experimental systems or in one of the labs assembling (or disassembling) benchtop setups.Working in Beth-El Industries my surrounding environment contains experienced design engineers, electrical engineers, production managers, machinists, and many other specialists I can consult with easily to keep developing my skills and knowledge base.
