Monroe County Middle School (Banks Stephens & William M. Hubbard Campuses)

I am currently principal of Monroe County Middle School, which ranks in the top 25% of Middle Schools in the state of Georgia. Students are excelling in higher level Math and Science courses. We offer students the opportunity to secure High School Credit in Physical Science and Algebra. We celebrate our growing Robotics and Agriculture Pathways.

As principal of Central High School, I lead the staff to a 13% increase in graduation rate. The school was removed from the “Priority” school list by the Georgia Department of Education in two years under my leadership.

As principal of Bloomfield Middle School, in eight months my team reduced Evidentiary (Discipline) Hearings by fifty percent. We focused our instructional efforts on making AYP/AMO goals. Bloomfield was removed from the “Needs Improvement” list in two years. We disaggregated multiple sources of data and taught to students’ weaknesses. We increased parental communication and teacher collaboration. We were given the title “Reward School” by the Georgia Department of Education for increasing student achievement.

I served as principal of Union Elementary School. Union was recognized as a Title 1 Distinguished School for five years under my leadership. During my tenure, Union was chosen as a Balanced Literacy Demonstration School. Our staff modeled the approach for educators throughout the district and was celebrated for being highly functional in the approach. We worked closely with system and community stakeholders to provide Balanced Literacy observation experiences for emerging educators through partnerships with local colleges and universities. We were proud to represent our school system by hosting SACS visitation for district accreditation. We also hosted Wesleyan College’s accreditation visit by the Professional Standards Commission in 2009. Most importantly, academically we performed very well when compared to schools of like demographics.

In implementing an effective program of education related to the needs of the student population served by the school, I served as Assistant Principal at Heritage Elementary School for one year. I assisted in enforcing policies, rules, regulations, guidelines, and procedures mandated by the Board of Education. I communicated with the local community. Participation in the assignment of school personnel, supervising and evaluating school employees, and assisting in providing materials and instructional assistance to teachers were some of my tasks. My duties also involved the assurance of cleanliness and proper maintenance of the school plant. I developed, implemented, and enforced our school wide discipline plan.
