    Services tech lead on Maps Product Infrastructure team. Designed and implemented solutions to migrate from commercially sourced maps to OpenStreetMap. Achieved numerous reliability and performance improvements (reduced average latency by over 90%), and a phased rollout with no outages while beating initial schedule estimate by 6 months. Other significant efforts included working with cartographers for style updates, handling political views within the map, sensitive area restrictions and designing SLA-bound rapid-release pipeline to correct errors.Architected and built Facebook’s first vector maps service, scaling project from a solo effort to a cross-functional team of 10+. Designed and implemented a rules engine for processing OSM data into standard geometries with a friendly Lua-based configuration. Wrote a complete implementation of the Mapbox Vector Tile Specification in C++. Directed development of new interfaces, procedures and improved reliability for the geocoder and address typeahead services. Reduced frequency of significant outages by over 85%, with only 1 in my final 6 months.Mentored and onboarded more than a dozen other engineers via the Bootcamp program.
