Analytical Chemist
Scientist
• Performed a variety of complex sample preparation and analysis procedures to quantitatively measure pharmaceutical compounds in a variety of formulations.• Reviewed, interpreted, and analyzed data for technical quality, and compliance to protocols, methods, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).• Designed and executed non-routine experiments with the assistance of the project manager. • Collaborated with multiple teams and functional groups to ensure project deliverables are met.• Independently performed calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of analytical equipment.
Chemical Engineer
• Improved various existing processes to reduce cost, simplify manufacturing, and improve production efficiency• Developed and validated new analytical testing methods and techniques.• Analyzed new chemical products and gave recommendations for implementation into the plant.• Validated incoming and outgoing batches of oil, chemicals, and other products• Maintained, logged, and trended multiple years worth of experimental results and data.
Clinical Laboratory Assistant
• Championed safe and proper handling of blood, bodily fluids, and bio-hazardous chemicals• Collaborated with phlebotomist to ensure samples were collected in sufficient quantity and in the correct containers• Decided what type of sample preparation was required for in-house testing and for shipping to reference labs• Was responsible for ensuring biological samples were received, organized, stored properly, and easily accessible
Graduate Research Assistant
• Designed and built a low-cost Raman spectrometer that utilized a digital camera as a detector in an attempt to improve on a previously built digital camera based spectrometer. While the spectrometer did show potential for UV-Vis experiments, it was of limited use for Raman spectroscopy, showing no improvement over the previous instrument. • Performed a comparison of newer and older infrared spectrometers to determine if older, more economical instruments could be used to collect quality data when performing micro-analysis. It was found that older instruments could be used to identify polystyrene samples down to 50 µM, but newer instruments did collect higher quality data.• Utilized ATR-FTIR spectroscopy to analyze pigments in pigment loaded polypropylene fibers based on previous transmission methods. Quality data could be collected in ATR mode for multiple pigments, resulting in calibration curve correlations matching or exceeding correlations resulting from the previous transmission methods.
Graduate Teaching Assistant
• Led groups of 20 students through general chemistry labs by providing direction and support, while encouraging students to take an active role in problem solving. • Communicated vital information relating to the class and the departmental policy.• Completed weekly labs early to help identify any potential issues and to gain familiarity with the lab before teaching. • Graded and organized student reports in a timely fashion while undergoing occasional auditing to ensure grading was consistent between classes and other teaching assistants. • Ensured availability for time with students over any concerns and issues whether in or out of weekly office hours.
Lab Intern
• Performed PEG-mediated transformations of E. coli using corn fungus and various restriction enzymes to search out the fungal gene responsible for the fungus’ harmful effect on the growth of corn. • Grew post-transformation bacterial colonies on agar plates searching for colonies that demonstrated antibiotic resistance and indicated a successful transformation. • Inoculated corn seeds with the post-transformation bacteria before planting them in a climate controlled greenhouse. • Monitored and attended to the growth of plants while watching for any unexpected growth patterns or other unexpected activity.
