About Egan Ward
I am an Honors journalism senior at the University of Missouri, coming to the J-school from Orlando, Florida. My specialty area is writing and reporting, with an emphasis on political and investigative reporting.I have worked as a reporter for The Columbia Missourian for nearly two years, serving on the Higher Education and Health beat, in addition to general assignment reporting. I am responsible for pitching and writing stories on tight deadlines, working on both enterprise stories and dailies. My work has covered a range of topics from artificial intelligence, housing, disability research, sports, environment and more. In Spring 2023, I was named the Missouri College Media Assocation's Journalist of the Year Award for 2022-2023.I spent the 2024 spring semester in Washington, D.C. through a Missouri School of Journalism program, where I worked as an editorial fellow for The Washingtonian Magazine. I recently became the first undergraduate student to be awarded the White House Correspondents' Association Scholarship in University of Missouri history.In the 2024-2025 academic year, I will be working for the Watchdog Writers Group, a Missouri School of Journalism organization that pairs top journalism students with professional reporters to help report for their investigative books. I will spend the year working with ProPublica reporter, Alec MacGillis, assisting him with his book exploring General Electric and the company's effects on a small New England town. I will also be completing my MU journalism capstone this fall, where I will conduct reporting projects relating to the 2024 Missouri Senate Race. I am continuing to pursue political, business and investigative reporting, with the goal of working in a top newsroom after I graduate in May 2025.
