My group I works on Cybernetics, primarily in the domains of health and well-being. Cybernetics i) is embedded, embodied, and ambient, ii) requires real-time processing of heterogeneous unstructured data streams (e.g., video, text, and biosignals), and iii) is both highly dynamic and interactive. My research focuses on Cybernetics’ foundations: designing efficient, intelligent, real-time signal processing algorithms and effective, personalized, empathic, and sustainable manifold interaction patterns.

In a private capacity, I am vice-chair of the Ethical Review Committee, Faculties of Science and Geosciences, Utrecht University. As such, I manage and supervise the daily process of the assessment of research proposal on their ethical aspects.
