Eduardo Gonzalez-Pier is Senior Technical Director for Health Finance at Palladium, Global Fellow at the Mexico Institute of the Wilson Center, Washington DC and a partner at Innovasalud/Blutitude, a consulting firm specialized in the health sector based in Mexico City. Over more than 25 years he has held senior positions in the health and social security sectors in Mexico. From 2014 to 2016 Eduardo served as Deputy Minister of Health, responsible for the development and implementation of policies and strategies related to the coordination and integration of the National Health System. Other positions he has held were: • Team Leader of the Better Health Programme Mexico, sponsored by the UK FCDO and implemented by DAI Global LLC.• Director-General of Medica Sur Clinical Foundation, a not-for-profit institution forming part of the Medica Sur Hospital Group. • Executive Chairman of FUNSALUD, a leading health policy think tank, • Chief Financial Officer and Planning Coordinator of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), the largest provider of pensions and health services in Mexico and • Chief Economist and General Coordinator of Strategic Planning at the Ministry of Health. Eduardo has actively participated in the design, approval, and implementation of strategic social security and health financing legal reforms, such as the pension system reform and the introduction of the Social Protection in Health (Seguro Popular de Salud). His current research interests include interactions between technology and Universal Health Care, benefits packages and priority setting in health care, the economic value of better health, pharmaceutical policy and hospital performance. He has served as an advisor to the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the World Health Organization and has published on a wide range of health, social protection, and social security topics. Eduardo holds a BS from Washington and Lee University and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Chicago.
