About Elizabeth Scott

A mechanical engineer who loves creative problem solving and using engineering skills to solve meaningful issues and create great products. With experience in product development and R&D working both at a solar start-up and through solar racing I have experience across the whole gamut of product development, from conception through to manufacturing. This has given me skills in CAD, CFD, FEA, concept generation, client engagement, stakeholder management, DFM/DFA and project management. I have worked with a range of materials from carbon fibre to concrete to extruded aluminium and I love to get hands on in the prototyping and testing phases, being proficient with power tools, with a special love of 3D printing.I also have experience in business development, having worked in marketing and communication, produced material that has been circulated internationally, represented at conferences across the country and run crowd funding campaigns that have raised $35k. This has refined my communication skills and given me insight to all facets of a company’s operations.Having a special interest in renewables, sustainability and the environment, I love to work on projects which improve the lives of the people they touch. With a second degree in Hispanic studies I am also a passionate world explorer.

I worked as a demonstrator, tutor and content creator for the course Engineering Design 1 for the faculty of Mechancial and Manufacturing Engineering. Designed to be and introduction to engineering, my role was to work with small and large groups of students across tutorials and labs, teaching them fundamental design principals and helping them work in groups to solve complexe problems. I also taught and assessed students on their ability to communicate engineering ideas. In my final year of tutoring I also created and updated course content to reflect the learning needs and context of a modern cohort of students. By updating the content to reflect modern engineering examples, we were able to better engage the students in the fudamentals of engineering.
