The National Institute for Technology in Liberal Education (NITLE) was a nonprofit sponsored by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to drive increased application of digital technologies within liberal arts colleges and universities.Led multi-institution Software-as-a-Service (SAAS) technology services within a network of universities. Owned all aspects of these efforts, including budgeting, implementation, marketing, market problems and client needs. Principal efforts included: - Developed services for high-definition video and other "telepresence" technologies for inter-campus teaching - Developed virtual computing services to provide on-demand high-performance computing resources to 15 independent universities.

Led multi-institution Software-as-a-Service (SAAS) technology services within a network of universities. Owned all aspects of these efforts, including budgeting, implementation,marketing, market problems and client needs. Principal efforts included: - A digital library services subscribed to by 30+ institutions. - A network-wide videoconference and collaboration service based with 80+ subscribers in the first year (based on Marratech and later Elluminate). - Learning management system services (based on both Sakai and Moodle).

Responsible for software development projects and all consortia information technology operations. - Designed and led implementation of synchronous and asynchronous online learning platform (based on LAMP - Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP & PERL) for inter-institutional courses. Worked closely with faculty and others to define the requirements and write functional specifications. Managed teams of up to 12+ developers. - Led consortia task forces in the areas of disaster recovery and security to produce consortia recommendation and best practices documents. - Managed operations of servers based on Unix/Linux.

Designed and implemented a commercially successful online learning platform (http://www.explorelearning.com) for delivery of math and science curriculum on a SaaS model. The platform has been used by millions of students since its launch. - Designed overall multi-tier architecture for the ExploreLearning platform on a very limited budget and led its implementation. - Connected platform to SalesForce for lead and CRM management and to district SIS systems for identity management.

Led development of web-based platform for online delivery of interactive science and humanities curriculum for secondary school system. (ActiveInk was part of the Austin Technology Incubator.) - Led design and development of platform version 3.0 (Java 2EE, SQL, Javascript, HTML. Flash/AS) with a team of 6+ developers and testers. Product was used by thousands of students in its initial years. - Provided input on product strategy in the emerging K12 online learning marketplace.

Developed web sites and web applications to meet customer needs (ASP, SQL, Javascript, HTML, Flash/ActionScript).
