Responsible for the planning, development and implementation of strategies, policies and programmes on plant genetic resources for food and agriculture (PGRFA) within the framework of the rolling Global Plan of Action on PGRFA. Provide technical support to the Secretariats of the Commission on Genetic Resources for food and agriculture and International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture.

Project coordinator for Bioversity’s work on conservation and management of agricultural biodiversity. Responsible for designing and developing the Conservation Project integrating both in situ and ex situ (genebank) conservation and management of agriculture biodiversity; preparing annual plans, Medium Term Plan, budget and reports; preparing projects for fund raising; providing scientific leadership for Bioversity's work on the assessment and monitoring of the status and trends of genetic diversity; supporting national partners (especially in developing countries) world-wide in developing strategies for the effective and efficient conservation of agricultural biodiversity; promoting research that will improve conservation methods (cryopreservation, improved seed banking); linking conservation to use and the understanding of genetic diversity and genetic erosion in genebanks, on farm and in the wild.

Responsible for the management and conservation of natural forest in Mauritius, conservation of threatened species, control of invasive aliens species and ecological restoration activities of degraded forest and small islands. Led the Service's work on the propagation of forest species for reafforestation projects and was responsible for the running of 5 nurseries across the island. In June 1992, I was seconded to the Conservation Unit, Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources where I served as a direct advisor to the Ministry and Minister of Agriculture on conservation matters.

Focal point for the Southern Africa sub-region (SADC); providing e scientific leadership on germplasm conservation strategies in SSA; contributing to the identification of research needs to support the improvement of strategies and methods of conserving germplasm in the region; contributing to the development and adoption of conservation technologies appropriate to the needs of national programmes in SSA region; global leader on germplasm management and conservation for IPGRI and led a large research project with 18 partners worldwide on tropical forest tree seed jointly with Danida Forest Seed Centre

Project leader for the World Bank/GEF project on Conservation of the Mauritius Biodiversity (working with a team of 5 professional scientists in restoration activities of small islets) and Project leader for the UNDP/GEF project on the Restoration of degraded upland forest in Mauritius.
