Just before I stepped on the plane, my dad said to me â âsay no to nothingâŚbut within reasonâ. This has hands down been the best advise my old man has given me. I will admit I didnât think it would lead to me jumping out of a plane at 14000 feet with one of the worst hangovers of my life. Being the youngest of a family of 4 high achievers I have always been the âfailureâ, rubbish grades and not even a gold star on my notebook, but I am the risk taker I have always lived for the thrill. I made a promise to myself as a young teen that I would pack my bags and move to Australia for a period in my life, and that is exactly what I did in 2015. I back packed the East, North, Centre and South of the Great Down Under. Slept in deserts under the stars, scuba dived the Great Barrier Reef, white water raft down crocodile ridden water in Cairns. Safe to say I âsaid no to nothingâ! But after all those crazy experiences, it was when I was hanging my washing out to dry that a nasty little White Tail Spider crawled up my right leg and took a bite. Over the period of living in Australia I learnt some valuable lessons, some much harder than others. Making new friends as an adult does not come easily, so it shocked me when I had to put myself out there and go looking, and now I have friends for life all around the word. Another lesson was money, turns out that dries up pretty quickly when you are backpacking, so learning to budget and spend wisely now comes naturally in everyday life. But the most valuable lesson I took away from my travels was discovering the kind of person I am. I really do love meeting people from every background and culture and thrive in taking chances. While all these lessons were valuable, so is making sure your travel insurance doesnât expire â Oh! and your passport... doh! Also I should add, I now keep the gold stars on my desk and reward myself, maybe too often. Every story is different as well as every adventure, and more often or not are a guaranteed laugh. â So whatâs yours?

Dental NurseCrown Dental Group Aug 2017 - PresentAberdeen, United KingdomThey took me back after a quick year away in Australia - I nursed for close to 10 years in the industry, this was the last practice I was a full time dental nurse and it was a pleasure to work with such a high end Dental practice. It definitely had its daily challenges but it taught me a lot, from a good level of dental knowledge to carry with me, to testing my level of patience and keeping my cool when required. I worked along side Jennifer Chalmers and Peter Coster, two of the best dentist I have ever worked with. They taught me a lot in the few years I was there. When I wasn't nursing for the dentist I would help out their hygienist when required - she always had the best radio taste. Other than surgery duties I was helping out in reception and in the LDU, sometimes it was nice to get away from the nitty gritty of the clinical dental surgery. -
Practice ManagerDeeside Dental Surgery Oct 2018 - Aug 2019Banchory, Scotland, United KingdomOne of the most challenging roles I have ever had, from nursing full time I was promoted to Practice Manager in a sister dental practice. I managed a team of 3 dentists one hygienist 1 receptionist and 4 dental nurses as well as the general management of the practice. I was not one for making big decisions but this role pushed me out of my comfort zone and surprised me of what I am capable of. It was in the position that I truly discovered what stress management was, it was a big lesson to not take work home with me. It was a job I needed and a role I had to do to open the door to my next chapter, but I will very happily admit that Dental Practice Manager was not the "forever" role for me. -
