As a volunteer coordinator, I supported the management and implementation of a violence prevention pilot project providing weekly social justice based curriculum for incarcerated youth. I assessed the detention facility landscape for additional youth educational opportunities resulting in development and planning of a SAT/ACT course preparation program.

As a Program Manager, I developed and implemented an innovative health-focused entrepreneurship program for youth called, Equity Eatz. I coordinated and facilitated all program activities, managed the budget, and developed a youth participatory research guide/toolkit for health entrepreneurship. Further, I regularly met with diverse East Los Angeles Community stakeholders to guide and consult on program execution and funding sources. As a student researcher, I conceptualized, implemented, managed, and evaluated my own food entrepreneurship program for 20 low-income youth focused on nutrition, culinary arts, and policy development training. I secured significant pilot funding from The California Endowment through a grant writing initiative. I evaluated Equity Eatz by collecting all pre and post data, inputting it into Excel and conducting basic analyses to determine increases in knowledge and behavior change.

I facilitated monthly interactive, multimedia sourced nutrition and lifestyle workshops to 20 Esteban Torres High School students in East Los Angeles.

I surveyed, analyzed, and reviewed healthy retail programs nationwide. I conducted phone interviews with public health officials, literature reviews, and internet research resulting in a report for the Los Angeles County Healthy Retail Workgroup. I also participated in the other tobacco and marijuana prevention workgroups including writing the Engaging Community Partners section for the Community Engagement Toolkit.

Each year, I trained 20 diverse youth per year using youth participatory research methods to change the social norms and media messaging around alcohol abuse resulting in decreased alcohol advertisements in District 5. I also facilitated collaborations between Asian American Recovery Services, University of San Francisco and Wallenberg High School Black Student Union members to address African American youth health disparities, this partnership resulted in two community events. My programs remained successful through meticulous data entry and effective process evaluation. I participated as a steering committee member of SF Prevention Coalition, a 12 CBO partnership, where I collaboratively drafted merchant education literature to decrease alcohol advertising, I facilitated coalition meetings with over 50 youth and adults, and I participated as a speaker in Department of Public Health Community Behavioral Health Services on behalf of the coalition.Further, I delivered over 50 harm reduction based drug and alcohol prevention education activities per year to diverse youth groups in a variety of settings; including, juvenile halls and school based programs.

I developed a curriculum for job skills and job placement program resulting in 100% of program participant job placement. I provided college informational sessions to 75 diverse students and their families per year regarding post-secondary options. I assisted students with personal statement composition and application submissions, recruited students to attend college information events and preparation sessions, and coordinated SAT preparation programs at no cost to students.

I worked as a teacher's aide in a ninth grade classroom in the Recovery School District. I was selected as part of City Year's pilot program measuring City Year effectiveness in New Orleans high schools. I created, developed, and supervised City Year Louisiana's first youth job skills programming during Spring Break camp. I co-authored and implemented College Awareness Initiative with emphasis on job skill development in W.L. Cohen High School to over 200 students.
