Researching sleep(-wake) problems and their underlying mechanisms in persons with albinism worldwide. This study is a collaboration between the groups of prof. E.J.W. van Someren, prof. A. Kalsbeek, and dr. D. J. Stenvers.

Supervised by dr. S. Kiessling I set up an in vitro model to study the 24h rhythmicity of murine gut microbiota. Additionally, I assessed sex differences in gut microbial rhythmicity in a large-scaled human population cohort.

In the group of dr. A.M. Kaag, I researched the role of female sex hormone fluctuations in the neuropathology of cocaine use disorder.Additionally, I assisted in collection of phMRI data regarding sex-dependent modulation of the brain stress system in alcohol use disorder.

Under supervision of dr. M.C.M. Gordijn, I assisted in a project investigating the effects of near infrared light (photobiomodulation) on human subjects with sleep deficits.Additionally, I wrote a literature review on the bidirectional interplay between circadian rhythms and the gut-brain axis.
