About Eileen D'Angelo

Short Bio: Eileen D'Angelo, Pa.C.P. is a Pennsylvania Certified Paralegal who has been working for criminal defense attorney, G. Guy Smith, Esquire, since December of 1985. When she is not working full time, she is deeply committed to the advancement of paralegals in her local community and the state, and has been elected to leadership roles including as former Vice President of the Keystone Alliance of Paralegal Associations and Co-Founder and past President of the Delaware County Paralegal Association. In addition, she was nominated by the Honorable Judge Barry Dozor to the Delaware County Community College Paralegal Advisory Board and she serves as Secretary of the Board. Eileen has also been the Executive Director of the Mad Poets since 1987 and coordinated over a fifteen hundred readings and special events in the Delaware Valley. She was nominated for a Governor’s Award in the Arts, and received two Pushcart Prize nominations from Verse Magazine and Schuylkill Valley Journal. In addition, she judged open auditions in Philadelphia for the pilot program of HBO’s Def Poetry Jam, Editor of the Mad Poets Review since 1990, she has poetry and book reviews published, or forthcoming in, Rattle, Manhattan Poetry Review, Wild River Review, Paterson Literary Review, Philadelphia Stories, The Independent Review, Drexel Online Journal, Philadelphia Poets, and others. She lectured at St. Joe’s, Rutgers, National Federation of State Poetry Societies, Mont. Co. Writers Conference, Del. Co. Womens’ Conference. Currently the Vice President of the Philadelphia Writers Conference Board of Directors (having served six terms as President), and was the former Secretary of the Board of Directors of Musehouse, a nonprofit literary arts organization founded by renowned poet, Kathleen Sheeder Bonanno, based in NW Philadelphia. She is also one of the coordinators of the annual Philadelphia Poetry Festival (along with founder, Leonard Gontarek). It is a literary event held in the Philadelphia (at the Rotunda in University City), which aims to connect all of the area literary venues for the purpose of networking and celebration. MAD POETS SOCIETY, an active non-profit 501(c)(3) tax exempt arts organization is, and has been, an integral part of the Philadelphia writing community for over twenty years. MPS' events, activities and programs are funded in part by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance and the Five County Arts Fund. Since 1987, MPS has grown from humble roots and a handful of poets to over 100 members in six states. Hosting and coordinating approx. 80-100 events per year, Mad Poets aspires to bring poetry to the community and the appreciation of the spoken word to Philadelphia and the surrounding communities and ot foster a supportive, nuturing atmosphere to promote individual growth. MPS connects poets and performance artists to venues, as well as create opportunities to read and publish, for critique and camaraderie and to learn and be inspired. Our programs extend well beyond those who are already inclined towards poetry and literary arts. Coordinated the YOUNG POETS COMPETITION throughout the Delaware County school system since the late 80's. We provide forums where diverse individuals can learn from each other and increase their understanding of the language. We provide an outlet for artistic energy and interests other than the workday world and offer opportunities and forums for new poets to express themselves in an encouraging atmosphere. Mad Poets comes from all walks of life. We are teachers, brick-layers, lawyers, construction workers, academia, students and seniors—Everyone with a common link: the love of words.

Each poetry series or organization will each share a little about their group, workshop, event or series, and offer a representative reader/poet. It is an annual event dedicated to celebrating Greater Philadelphia poetry & literary commuity in all its manifestations.
