With an undergraduate degree in English literature and a master’s in applied nutrition, I am enthusiastic about understanding and sharing the food experiences of immigrant and refugee communities. As a health sciences Ph.D. candidate, I've recently completed data collection on a Photovoice study delving into the foodways of Afghan mothers in upstate New York.Throughout my career as a registered dietitian, I've consulted on state-administered obesity prevention projects, designed nutrition curricula, and facilitated wellness presentations. As a college instructor, I am most inspired by teaching Community Nutrition and Food and Culture.As I begin to develop my work in academia, I am eager to collaborate with those who value the sharing of traditional foodways – especially with the healthcare and service provider communities. Central to my mission is the principle of ethical engagement: ensuring that immigrant and refugee participants are recognized and compensated for their invaluable insights. While I am still navigating the research landscape, my sincerity and commitment are unwavering.
