In my current role, I am an integral member of the in-patient Orthopaedic Surgery team. I manage the post-operative care for patients admitted to the in-patient Orthopaedic service. The patient population includes: level one traumas, total joint replacements (hip, knee, and shoulder), spinal surgery, sports medicine, oncology, foot and ankle surgery, and hand surgery. Additionally, I collaborate with numerous consulting services to ensure patients are medically optimized prior to hospital discharge. Patient education also comprises a large portion of my current role as well as resident and nurse education. I worked closely with the Care Coordination team in ensuring that all patients have their medical and surgical needs met following their discharge home which involves the arrangement of home care services and family education.

I managed orthopaedic spine patients in the clinic and hospital settings. I was responsible for the non-operative management of this patient population as well as the post-operative care once the patient undergoes surgery. I was also involved in the optimization of patients prior to surgery. I developed a spine education book for patients undergoing surgery as well as implemented a pre-surgical spine education class. I held an independent clinic in two office locations and work closely with the attendings and residents on the spine service, being involved in both resident and nursing education.

I managed the post-operative care for patients admitted to the in-patient Orthopaedic service. The patient population included: level one traumas, total joint replacements (hip, knee, and shoulder), spinal surgery, sports medicine, oncology, foot and ankle surgery, and hand surgery. I also served as the liaison between the in-patient and out-patient Total Joint Program, coordinating post-surgical patient logistics as well as protocols for the Total Joint Program. Patient education also comprised a large portion of my current role as well as resident and nurse education. I worked closely with the Care Coordination team in ensuring that all patients have their medical and surgical needs met following their discharge home which involves the arrangement of home care services and family education. I have also worked in the clinic focusing on the non-operative management of osteoarthritis. Additional clinic responsibilities include: history and physicals, wound checks, injections, joint aspirations, and urgent care orthopaedic complaints.

I served as a Nurse Practitioner for the Orthopaedic service. I was responsible for the surgical management of patients who have undergone total joint replacement, spinal surgery, foot and ankle surgery, and shoulder surgery. Additionally, I was an integral component in the establishment of the Total Joint Center at Medstar Georgetown Hospital. For the outpatient population, I coordinated care of pre-surgical joint patients, including medical management and surgical clearance of patients, as well as post-surgical follow up and osteoarthritis management. I assisted in the coordination of discharge planning as well as patient care management of the inpatient Orthopaedic Service. I also played an integral role in patient education following orthopaedic surgery for both the patients and nursing staff.

Currently I am a registered nurse caring for patients who undergo orthopedic surgery like total hip arthroplasty, total knee arthroplasty/revision, laminectomy, plastic surgery patients seeking limb salvage, wound reconstruction, and wound debridement., along with the medical and surgical complications that accompany these diverse surgeries. In addition to treating the patient for his/her diagnosis, I also educate patients on how to best care for themselves upon return to home following surgery as well as how to manage their co-morbid medical conditions. I serve as a preceptor for new graduate nurses as well as the charge nurse on the unit. I have recently advanced in the clinical ladder, becoming a Clinical Nurse IV.

Responsible for kidney transplant patients for the first three months following transplantation.
