Helping construction project teams build communication and trust that provides a strong foundation for all stakeholders to work together to achieve project success is my core objective as a Certified Partnering Facilitator working in partnership with Velo Group. I have championed the Collaborative Partnering approach to construction projects while serving as both a partnering facilitator and a licensed Professional Engineer for more than 25 years. During this time, I have had the opportunity to work with many exceptional project teams and learned first-hand that team success is driven by a team’s ability to communicate and collaboratively solve challenges.My passion for construction partnering stems from my experience as a civil engineer for highway, transit and aviation projects throughout Maryland. Working as part of a project team taught me how crucial relationship building and team synergy are to achieving a positive project outcome for all stakeholders.While the project delivery methods have varied from design-build to public-private partnerships, the core principles of strategic alignment, accountability and issue resolution remain the foundation of my collaborative process.Working with all levels of the project team as well as third-party entities critical to the project’s success, I focus on opening dialogue and understanding the potential of each project team to help align all stakeholders, creating a project-first mindset. From clients embarking upon the collaborative partnering process for the first time to experienced clients who have built a culture around partnering, I provide a focused discussion within the team to identify the opportunities and address the project’s unique challenges. For more than seven years, I have combined my engineering expertise with partnering strategies to facilitate more than 100 construction partnering workshops for several large-scale government-funded projects across the country as well as state, local and privately funded projects. These projects include airports, highways, public buildings, transit facilities, water and wastewater treatment plants, and more.
