I am responsible for communicating with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure smooth and efficient patient care. I coordinate patient transfers to sister hospitals or appropriate facilities, perform charting in the Epic computer system or on paper forms as appropriate, and monitor telemetry for each patient, reporting any abnormal discrepancies. I check the results of tests and accurately and efficiently alert providers and nursing staff of abnormal results. I activate traumas, strokes, and cardiac events overhead and through Nextel phones, and maintain accurate and confidential patient records, including admissions, transfers, and discharge information. I adhere to HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality at all times. I assist in coordinating patient transportation if needed, and support administrative and healthcare staff, including ER providers and numerous specialists on call for the hospital. I monitor and stock unit supplies and inventory, ensuring that stock levels are maintained for all necessary items. I answer, direct, and relay phone calls and messages to appropriate parties. I phone and page providers on call or in house, as well as law enforcement, medical staff, specialists, and the general population.
