Director Of Product Management

Current

Bedford, Massachusetts, Us

(Role ended in Feb 2023) I enabled portfolio growth for Roomba floorcare robots in market, reporting to the Senior VP Product. I owned the roadmap, and my work spanned product development, lifecycle management, customer lifetime value, engineering project prioritization, supply chain optimization, and sales enablement. I flexed my domain to address particular business challenges, securing beachheads with quick wins then establishing sustainable processes for the long run.

Nov 2020 - Present

Director Of B2B Business

Santa Barbara, Ca, Us

I led the global B2B Installed Solutions business, one of Sonos' largest channels, to develop & execute the 3-year global strategy (hardware, software, and business processes), deliver near-term projects, and cultivate new opportunities in adjacent verticals & with key partnerships. I reported to the VP of Go-to-Market.I first developed and aligned a global business strategy to expand beyond the mature US market. I then worked with eight countries to build out supporting strategies for a bottoms-up approach to global execution. I also orchestrated efforts to build out channel marketing, including CRM, digital assets, and product messaging for higher partner engagement and end-customer sell-through.

Jan 2019 - Jul 2020

Director Of Product Marketing

Santa Barbara, Ca, Us

I compelled cross-functional leadership to fund major channel investments, to appreciably upgrade the B2B-partner experience well beyond product launches. The funding supported a new Salesforce B2B portal, an upgraded dealer locator, and expedited customer care. I also managed go-to-market of Sonos Architectural by Sonance speakers for a Feb 2019 launch.

Oct 2018 - Jan 2019

Product Marketing Manager

Santa Barbara, Ca, Us

I managed the product launch of Amp, to grow the Sonos amplifier business at one of the company's highest margins. I built out the Architectural category (amplifiers, digital media players, and architectural loudspeakers) by growing the business for custom installers, smart-home consultants, and commercial opportunities.

Jan 2018 - Oct 2018

Senior Product Manager

Cambridge Sound Management

Cambridge Sound Management (later acquired by Biamp) is a growth-oriented technology company that is the leader in sound-masking systems, with a distinguished heritage in the field of acoustics and audio engineering. Reporting to the VP of Marketing, I was the sole product manager and directed the market launch of two major products, including go-to-market and product development. I managed the product development & launch of the company's first consumer product, Nightingale, which is the first Internet of Things (IoT) sleep solution and includes a device, mobile apps, and web portal. I facilitated go-to-market and product development; I also managed product testing and technical service partners. I worked with Harvard Medical School to study product effectiveness, which compelled a paper to be written for the prestigious Sleep Conference 2017. Nightingale received major awards in the market and exceeded sales forecasts. For Nightingale, I expanded the business for IoT sleep solutions beyond consumers to hotels. I explored opportunities with 4 out of the 5 top hotel chains, scoping needs and conducting product trials. The proof-of-concept for hotels was so compelling that initial forecasts far exceeded consumer forecasts. For the established commercial business, I led the launch of a high-performance product line, to shift the mix toward higher-end applications. I coordinated cross-functional teams and external resources to develop and launch multiple product components, to sell through channel partners.

Jan 2016 - May 2017

Product Marketing Manager

Framingham, Massachusetts, Us

I have a proven track record in strategic product marketing, which has spanned business strategy, product roadmaps, and market analysis. I directed an international cross-divisional 10-person team to increase consideration of home theater by 50%. As key inputs, we conducted qualitative and quantitative market research across five countries. I led the effort to obtain $6M of initial funding to grow corporate home-theater revenue by $100M. I also proactively created a different cross-functional team that formulated strategy, a product definition, and the business plan for sustaining a huge cash-cow business through imminent technology disruption. The effort allowed the corporation to avoid phasing out this business in 2017 and, instead, forecasted $230M in annual profit. To do this, we succeeded in obtaining $30M in development investment to fund the next-generation product. I developed customer segmentation for the headphone division, which clearly defined benefits among three major product lines. In particular, my analysis identified and promoted product aesthetics as a key source of consumer value. To build organizational capabilities, I established a high-impact strategic business process and refined the funding path for short-term, high-potential initiatives. And I developed an operations review analyzing past and driving futures sales results.

2010 - 2015 ~5 yrs

New Product Manager

Framingham, Massachusetts, Us

As a product manager, I formulated product strategy, defined product requirements, and facilitated product development. I notably spearheaded the go-to-market activities for a major home-theater launch, including market positioning, consumer messaging, and asset development. My market launch resulted in an industry-leading home-theater system in revenue ($130M) and contributed to 5% of corporate profit.

2008 - 2010 ~2 yrs

Technical Product Manager

Framingham, Massachusetts, Us

I led product requirements and platform development, including enablers such as software and user-experience. I reduced time-to-market and investment by facilitating marketing leadership to platform development as well as sales and marketing of future products. I assessed the threat of soundbars to 2.1-speaker systems by conducting market research that analyzed customer needs and market opportunity. I discovered a high-potential soundbar segment, which the corporation successfully invested in while also preserving its 2.1-speaker leadership. I probed low customer satisfaction of premium products by surveying 400 customers, revealing product-customer mismatch. I developed a financial model to show that steering certain people to cheaper products increased profits as well as customer satisfaction. My analysis subsequently influenced the sales group to redo merchandising and engagement in stores.

2001 - 2008 ~7 yrs

Manager

I managed consulting project teams and senior client stakeholders to improve product development and establish strategic marketing capabilities in technology businesses. My clients ranged from startups to Fortune 100 corporations. I set up a telematics joint venture among the world's largest mobile-services provider, two global automotive manufacturers, and a leading multimedia content provider. I also acted as Director of Sales and Marketing for the German venture entity of a European DSL services provider, and my sales results secured the next funding round from the parent company.

1999 - 2001 ~2 yrs

Associate

I was a key part of a team that transformed a $2.5B enterprise business unit of a leading networking equipment provider from pushing technology-driven products to architecting market-driven solutions by establishing a strategic planning process. As a result, the business unit restructured along market-driven lines, projecting $800M in revenue increases and $300K in operating-margin improvements.
