Features EditorCairns Post Jul 2003 - Nov 2012Cairns, Far North QueenslandIn her 10-year tenure at the Cairns Post, Eileen was Features Editor and drove the editorial and creative direction of in-paper supplements (Monday to Saturday). Managing a staff of 12 sub-editors and two graphic designers at peak production periods, she is proud to have been the founding editor of weekender, a leisure title produced for the Saturday paper, and then the weekly editor of the CairnsEye. Other titles in the features portfolio included entertainment lift outs and commercial publications such as the paper's real estate and cars publications. Eileen worked with sub-editors, graphic designers as well as pre-press to ensure production targets were on track. She remembers the Lose2Win project as a particular highlight. The weight-loss community campaign tackled the obesity problem in a responsible and realistic manner by equipping the community with a food and weight loss program that was published weekly over 13 weeks. In addition, the campaign featured a competition that saw five candidates profiled over the weeks that created huge community interest. The program was refreshed yearly over five years, with Eileen the project leader. -
EditorEmap Malaysia 1997 - 2001Eileen began as a Senior Writer and then became Editor. She drove creative direction, both editorially and artistically over two magazines, aimed at two different demographics. Her responsibilities included generating stories and ideas for magazines that were fresh and innovative, managing editorial teams of up to 6 people, comprised of writers and graphic designers and liasoning between the editorial teams and advertising teams as well as ensuring production deadlines were met. She developed an all-round appreciation of the complex world of publishing that still grounds her work today. From the print site to pre-press and distribution, this time was the heyday of magazine publishing that saw her help sell 50,000 magazines a month.
