Casa do Caminho, Comunidade Rural is a non-profit organization that works with vulnerable local children and adolescents to help provide a healthy living environment, education, and support. At the site in Xerem, there were three houses, the first for children ages 5-12, second for adolescent females, and the third for adolescent males. The children and youth who lived at the houses were taken from their families by the government due to a variety of reasons. As a volunteer I:•Successfully managed multiple roles as an English teacher for members of the community, Medical Coordinator and Educator for the children •Managed total daily care for the children ages 4-17, based on setting priorities and ensuring maintenance of pre-established routine•Assisted children with educational needs•Cooked meals for 15-30 people•Created interactive and fun learning activities for the children outside of the classroom. •Provided a healthy and safe living environment through building relationships and rapport with each individual child and youth. •Demonstrated adaptability and team building skills by helping in all areas and planning group activities to build team moral •Successfully learned a language by full immersion, and shared cultural experiences with peers
