We started Grandpa Barry's Guitars out of our house back in Maryland in 2015. In 2019 we opened as part of an incubator partnership, which led to three years as a vendor in an antique store in Ottawa, KS. In 2020, we opened another "vendorship" with Kaw River Rustics in Topeka,. However, in May, 2023, the building that housed us in Ottawa was sold and we moved all inventory to our Topeka store. Grandpa Barry's Guitars carries all manner of stringed instruments, from banjos to mandolins to acoustic and electric guitars. We also carry a wide variety of ukuleles, including the Travel line of Flight Ukes. We also have myriad accessories - strings, pedals, and other necessities as well as niceties! We restring and repair guitars both onsite or, if needed, with a professional luthier with over 50 years of experience repairing guitars. As co-owner, I am reponsible for AR/AP,inventory, and calculating quarterly taxes. I also help create content for the store Facebook page. As well, I educated myself of numerous types of guitars and accessory brands., Creating jewelry is a hobby, and I make interesting and unique guitar pick earrings for sale at the store.

As a wedding and event photographer for over eight years, I expertly captured those incredibly special moments and milestones in a person's life, whether photographing a wedding, a bar or bat mitzvah, or another life event. Although professional photography is no longer my primary business, I still enjoy helping friends and family out when they need special event photography. My extensive photographic experience, combined with my love of all things computer and technical, enables me to teach my Adult Computer Clients the basics of digital photo manipulation, whether on their phone with various apps, or through Picasa or Photoshop Elements on their computer. I love when my clients learn how to do something that has stumped them for ages. I live for those "a-ha" moments when a client understands how to perform a new task!

Throughout the years, at various times I have worked for several optical companies as an ABO Certified Optician. These responsibilities entailed not only properly assisting customers in making frame and lens choices commensurate with their eyeglass prescription, but ensuring that glasses were made correctly, according to ANSI standards.I took on progressively more responsibility and was promoted to retail sales manager. In that role, I was responsible for training new hires, not only on store procedures but also on opticianry itself, as most positions were on-the-job training. I was responsible for learning store metrics and how to compare YTD sales compared with the prior year.

At both Marriott and other previous employers, throughout the years I performed basic secretarial duties. In addition, prior to my administrative responsibilities as the Executive Secretary at the Bethesda Pooks Hill Marriott, I worked for several emerging software and solutions support companies in the late 80s and early 90s. As a result, I learned much about software and computers by virtue of the industry I was in. Getting in on the ground level of computer software and network support gave me a tremendous advantage in gaining comfort and familiarity within these industries. I became, in addition to my regular administrative tasks, the point-person for software training, specifically in WordPerfect and MS Word. I learned WordPerfect 4.1 for DOS in 1989, long before it was bought by Corel, and eventually made the transition (around 1992, along with everyone else at that time) to Microsoft Word. About 20 years ago I took a "train-the-trainer" course and have used those skills to further enrich my ability to impart knowledge to others. I also took several classes at various tech companies as well as at Montgomery College. My first computer class was a DOS class, taken back in 1988. I then progressed to taking various software courses throughout my early years as a secretary, and have built upon that previous knowledge to get to where I am today - proficient in many areas of technology. I enjoy (and always have enjoyed) learning about these fields, and I remain on par with or ahead of the curve regarding technology. Computers have changed tremendously over the past 25 years, and I've had the privilege to experience the ups and downs of it all.

As a software beta tester, I was responsible for testing and troubleshooting each new version of the TownePlace Suites Guestview front office software before it was launched in May of 1999. I worked closely with the software developer, Anasazi/Resolution Software located in Phoenix, AZ, to identify and help correct bugs in the beta version. When the software was installed (in beta form) in a few hotels, I would remotely dial-in into the property's system to help train the employees (as well as help with troubleshooting problems.) With each new release, I was also responsible for writing and running test scripts to ensure the software was working properly.
