Director of Internal Relations for The Board, a new society in St Andrews to connect and inspire future women in Business. My role as Director of Internal Relations allows me to communicate between The Board Members and The Board Directors to allow for effective decision making whilst ensuring that feedback is taken into account in order to improve the service provided to members.

This position has allowed me to gain vast experience in customer service and ensuring that guests receive a flawless service from the moment they book their stay. Becoming a trusted and experienced employee over the years has provided me with added responsibility from managing balancing payments, overseeing room bookings and allocations to managing client accounts. I have enjoyed advising and overseeing new employees and interns taken on by the business which has given me the opportunity to lead a team of hardworking conscientious staff when I am not studying at university.

Last week marked the end of my 6-week placement in the Competitions department as part of a small team delivering the Royal Highland Showcase - the first event of its kind to take place in the UK. Coming from an agricultural background, the Royal Highland Show has always been integral to my annual calendar and an event that I have attended for the majority of the last 22 years. As last year’s Royal Highland Show was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was essential that a safe, controlled event was held to promote Scottish Agriculture whilst also supporting rural communities, many of whom have faced great struggles over the last 18 months. My role as assistant to the Competitions and Livestock manager varied greatly over the course of employment with the key tasks ranging from the organisation of the Scottish Dairy Championships to communication with competitors and collation of results for online display. It has been so refreshing to work as part of such a dedicated and passionate team, that care so deeply about their colleagues and the impact that the Royal Highland Show (and Showcase) has and continues to have on the promotion of Scottish Food, Drink and Agriculture. The Royal Highland Showcase garnered over 270,000 live streams over 7 days across 87 countries, with the number of on demand views continuing to grow. It has been a privilege to work as part of the team that delivered this event in under 80 days in a safe environment with many competitors expressing their gratitude and highlighting how much the return to competition meant to them. I look forward to seeing how this new format will change the Royal Highland Show in years to come however, more importantly I look forward to welcoming crowds back to Ingliston and a busy showground once again next year.
