I focus on the commercialisation of Lios's technology – building strategic global partnerships with market leaders and innovators which is a key driver of adoption of our advanced acoustic material SoundBounce. Alongside Rhona, I'm involved with product creation and building robust and valuable IP. I lead our research and product development team, comprising of experts in acoustics, chemistry, material science, physics, and mathematical modelling. Our interdisciplinary team works on both internal R&D and joint development projects with customers. I headed the Water of Life Society, a group of students, staff, and others connected to the university interested in learning about whisky. This role involved planning tastings and trips, overseeing the committee of seven members, dealing with the students' union, and having oversight on all society matters.This was an excellent opportunity to work with a committee with as many nationalities as members and to deliver successful events for up to 150 people at a time. Further to the weekly management of the society, I was also responsible for out reach and networking within the whisky industry in order to secure sponsorship and support for the society. Highlights include both the increase in general membership, by around 30%, and of female membership of the society during my tenure as first female president of the 24 year old society.

I completed a project which used statistical mechanics to derive the gas laws of dark matter clouds. This research formed part of a larger project taking place at the Hubble Telescope. This opportunity allowed me to apply the physics I was learning at university in an advanced research setting. It was an excellent experience of the academic environment.

Launch.ed is the support service for student entrepreneurs at the University of Edinburgh; SIE (Scottish Institute for Enterprise) is the same on a national level. In this jointly managed internship my role was to encourage student entrepreneurship through organising, promoting, and attending events. In addition to event management I maintained the Launch.ed website and social media presence. This role gave me an opportunity to meet many other student entrepreneurs and learn about different types of businesses. Two particular highlights were attending and speaking at the MIT Global Startup Workshop on scholarship in Seoul, Korea and coming national runner-up at the Student Employee of the Year Awards.
