In short space of time, I increased the clinical activity of the orthopaedic department, which fed into revenue generation. Patient numbers were increased and I took a minimally-invasive stance as the default even for complex injuries and illness sequelae. Operations that would traditionally never have been considered for an arthroscopic approach now include spinal and pelvic fracture repair, shoulder joint replacement and reconstruction following bone removal for cancer.Service development is another key interest of mine. I have introduced ortho-geriatrics and sports medicine into my department. The latter is potentially an extremely lucrative source of income.I also enhanced patient safety in trauma resuscitation by staffing the emergency department specifically with surgeons qualified in trauma management.
