The Osgood Center is a nonprofit educational organization that provides experiential education programs for college and graduate students from around the world. It supports the National Model UN program, an annual January leadership seminar, a summer institute on global and economic security, customized academic seminars and courses, and internships in a wide variety of fields for a diverse set of majors. Known as a high quality provider of academic content and for its expert instruction, the Osgood Center prides itself on the individual attention it gives to each of its participants, often tailoring the curriculum to best suit one's interests and goals.

Eugene J. Alpert originally joined The Washington Center in 1993 as vice president for academic affairs, overseeing the academic internships, academic courses, academic seminars, and, for a period, student life and housing. As senior vice president, Gene oversaw the academic seminars and the more than forty associate faculty, who teach the courses required of students in the internship program. This included a partnership with C-SPAN and a distance-learning course in politics and the media taught by Steve Scully of C-SPAN. He also was responsible for the administration of the Alan K. Simpson-Norman Y. Mineta Leaders Series, which invites a prestigious array of Washington leaders to speak to Washington Center interns. He also worked closely with The Washington Center’s campus liaisons, including those on the National Liaison Advisory Board, who provide assistance and advice for specific TWC internship programs and academic seminars.Every four years until 2012, Gene continued the tradition he started in 1984, when The Washington Center offered its first National Political Convention Program. This prestigious program has brought over 2,500 students and faculty to the Republican and Democratic national conventions for the only national academic program for college students at these historic events.

Areas of responsibility included: internships, academic courses, academic seminars, student life and housing, admissions and enrollment, institutional relations and outreach, and the national liaison advisory board. In 1984 Alpert originated with The Washington Center the only national academic program for college students at the national political conventions, which occurs every four years on site. Students enroll for a two-week program that consists of lectures, site visits, tours, briefings and volunteer assignments with convention-related organizations. Over 2500 college students and faculty have participated in these programs.

United Planet is a nonprofit organization that offers international volunteer abroad opportunities in 35 countries, immersing participants in local culture to help create a global community.

Serves as a representative of NCHC in the Washington, D.C. area primarily as a liaison to other higher education organizations whose goals are to improve the quality of undergraduate education. Also assigned to special projects, such as the celebration of the 50th anniversary of NCHC.

Appointed as an alternate director representing the National Society for Experiential Education. Has served on committees to revise CAS standards for internships, service learning, and undergraduate research.

National Society for Experiential Education (NSEE) is a nonprofit membership organization composed of educators, businesses, and community leaders. Founded in 1971, NSEE also serves as a national resource center for the development and improvement of experiential education programs nationwide. www.nsee.org
