"Inspiring inventors" is a series of live talks featuring distinguished inventors who were nominated as finalists or winners of the European Inventor Award and their inventions. The series provides a unique opportunity to interact with the inventors and learn how to successfully bring an invention to market and contribute to innovation.

Dealing with patent opposition cases in a variety of technical fields in the role of Chairman or first examiner of the opposition division.

Patent examiner in the European Patent Office in the areas of: 3D video systems, interactive video distribution and client/server environments in ICT.Extensive training in EPC law, patent search, examination, claim interpretation, oral proceedings both pre and post grant (opposition) and appeals.

Working 50% on the PATLIB 2.0 project. Content creator for communication channels such as PATLIB Newsletter, PATLIB related podcast and where appropriate training sessions and other sessions such as Shaping the Future Together. Contact point for PATLIB centres wanting to apply modern technologies (chatbot, webchat, CRM, CSM) in the most efficient way possible. Aiding PATLIB centres to adapt to new ways of working. Contributor to the creation and implementation of the annual training plan for PATLIB centres. Contact for PATCOM's contribution to PATLIB 2.0, dovetailing this with the provision of EPO search tools to PATLIB centres.

CDVP researcher within the ICT €10million European funded knowledge management Project aceMedia. Represented CDVP in the aceMedia technical management committee which defined the technical direction, goals, milestones, deliverables, and deadlines of the project. Drafting research proposals. Representative on the ISO Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) for the specification and implementation of the MPEG-4 and 7 multimedia standards, this required supervising CDVP activities, attending quarterly meetings and reporting on and presenting results.Supervised a number of IT research projects being completed by PhD students.

Participated in R&D with various departmental teams on 7 different European and German government funded ICT projects in the areas of image and video processing, multimedia and telecommunications. Responsible for the generation and presentation of project deliverables and +15 R&D papers and invited talks at international conferences. Successfully negotiated funding from the German research society for the project within which his PhD research was completed.

Joined the Video Encoding Group of the Research & Development Company Teltec Ireland in 1996. Worked on an international research project called MoMuSys - 'Mobile Multimedia Systems' which was part of the European Commission ACTS projects. Also worked in the MPEG-4 consortium helping develop the International Standard MPEG-4. Completed a 5 month 'Visiting Scientist Scheme', funded by the European Commission, with the virtual reality group, TeleVR, of the telecommunications company Telenor in Oslo, Norway. This scheme was designed to allow a transfer of knowledge between companies involved in European projects. During this period he helped develop a 3D viewer/player application that was fully MPEG-4 compliant. This application was an active implementation of the developing standard and was in conjunction with the MPEG-4 consortium.

Contributed to and responsible for a team of software developers working on client-server applications using SQL, C++ and Powerbuilder. Member of an in-house team designed to bring problem projects back on target.
