EJ Wensing completed his doctorate in 2012 in psychology and sustainability supported by a doctoral dissertation completion grant from the US National Science Foundation (NSF). New funding through an EAGER award from NSF for 2013-2016 allows him to continue his research. He is currently Research Faculty at George Mason University, Assistant Professor at Old Dominion University, and a Visiting Social Scientist at the University of the Virgin Islands. He has just been accepted to a placement as a Postdoctoral Visiting Scholar, Department of Human Development, Columbia University, New York.The focus of his research is the psychosocial domain of the 21st-century skills described by the National Research Council (NRC, 2012) in the United States. While at Columbia he will be seeking to develop a curriculum for 21st-century education that integrates deeper learning of psychosocial skills with traditional learning in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and other disciplines. In his research he is seeking to utilize a network of transdisciplinary integration and implementation (I2S) learning labs for 21st-century skills that connect students and educators with their communities through community-based research and service learning. Field sites for his research include communities in the Arctic, Caribbean, USA and Europe.
