My qualifications to represent buyers and seller of privately-held, middle market companies began in 1974 when I accepted a position with The Babcock & Wilcox Company (NYSE:BWC). Within a year I was promoted to the corporate staff where I was involved in evaluating acquisitions of companies and intellectual property. In 1977 BWC was acquired by J. Ray on both domestic and international acquisitions.In 1980 I was selected by Tidewater Inc. (NYSE:TDW) to be its first Director of Corporate Development reporting to the Chairman and CEO. In 1982 I was dispatched to Brazil to resolve an issue for TDW’s Brazilian subsidiary. I successfully negotiated a resolution with our major customer. This experience in Brazil has become the foundation for me to advise clients in cross-border deals. In 1985 I resigned from TDW to go into business brokerage.After working for general business brokerage firm in Asheville, NC for almost 10 years the late William J. Fass and I founded Business Intermediary Services, Ltd. (BIS) in 1994 to focus solely on serving owners of privately-held, lower middle market companies.In 2009 Greg Kells and I purchased the Sunbelt Network (d/b/a Sunbelt Business Brokers) master franchise for Brazil. We then partnered with Batista Giglotti who formed Sunbelt do Brasil and he manages the day-to-day operation.I have both a B.S. in Industrial Management and M.S. in Management from The University of Akron. I also studied Strategic Planning at the Sloan School of Business. I am a founder of the Carolinas-Virginia Business Brokers Association (CVBBA) and served as its first president and currently serve as director. I am a member the Alliance of Merger and Acquisition Advisors (AM&AA) and hold its Certified Merger and Acquisitions Advisors (CM&AA) professional designation. I am also a life member of The Institute of Business Appraisers (IBA). I hold real estate broker licenses in both North Carolina and South Carolina.
