I have been working on biomedical imaging with focus on cardiovascular disease and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) over the past 20 years in both academia and industry. After receiving the Master and PhD degrees from Johns Hopkins University, I joined the University of Florida as an Assistant Professor in Radiology, where during that 5-year period I received both institutional and external research funding grants and fostered collaboration with industry. Afterwards, I joined Mayo Clinic and then the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where I worked on different medical imaging projects, before joining GE Healthcare as the Manager of MRI Research & Development (a senior professional band position) based in the company’s headquarter in Wisconsin, USA. In my current position at Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), I am responsible for building cardiovascular imaging research program using advanced magnetic resonance imaging techniques through my own research projects and in collaboration with other investigators and industry. My research activities, which are funded by institutional, professional, national, and industry grants, are focused on exploiting the capabilities of advanced medical imaging for generating quantifiable early markers of heart failure. Examples of my current research projects include using advanced MRI for early detection of cancer treatment-induced heart diseases (both animal models and patients). I am also working on another project to study the effects of long COVID on the heart. I also worked on other research projects that include imaging different body organs, clinical applications, and imaging modalities.I have extensive experience in medical research as evidenced by writing Two key Textbooks on heart disease (1360 pages, including 24 chapters and 3000+ references), in addition to over 300 publications, including book chapters, book reviews, peer-reviewed journal papers, conference papers, and abstracts. I have strong relationships with a large network of experts in the field, as I have been invited as a visiting professor and to give invited presentations in several international meetings and events. I also serve as a reviewer for over 50 international journals, conferences, publishers, and grants funding agencies. Besides research activities, On the teaching side, I have been teaching since 1996 to both medical and engineering students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. I also advise and serve on dissertation committees of graduate students.
