JAC was my husband’s idea. He recognised the value of the job and career support I was providing clients, friends and family – to help them secure a new job, promotion, career change or even to hold on to their existing job following a re-organisation – and thought it could be turned into an online business. I wasn’t sure. At the time I was working long hours in the corporate world but also looking for a better work-life balance and an easier pace of life. But a few years on and Job Application Coach was born. I’m passionate about helping people who struggle with interview nerves, aren’t sure how to promote their skills and talents to recruiters or just aren’t getting invited to many or any interviews.I’m a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (𝗖𝗜𝗣𝗗) and Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and an experienced psychometric tester and assessor. I’ve got over 30 years of recruitment expertise, as an in-house recruiter as well as an external recruiter and consultant and have put this experience and knowledge into creating Job Application Coach. We worked across the public, private and not-for-profit sectors for organisations such as the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman, The Royal Bank of Scotland plc, Scottish Prison Service, Haemonetics Corporation, Aviagen UK Ltd., Scottish Enterprise, Ernst & Young, Scottish Legal Complaints Commission, ProStrakan, Local Authorities and the Education sector.Our work spanned the entire HR discipline including strategic HRM, recruitment and selection, job evaluation, performance management, employee surveys, training needs analysis, succession planning and management development. We also provided outsourced HR services to businesses without an in-house HR resource and project-managed large-scale programmes. Our research and evaluation team undertook a diverse range of work, including:* A review of the issues connected with employee recruitment and retention at Braehead Shopping Centre. The aims of the research were ‘to understand the recruitment issues, make recommendations for access to the widest pool of potential employees and to report on retailer reaction to proposals for an increased role for local government agencies to support recruitment at Braehead’. * Research for Durham University to establish a list of precepts of good management which could be benchmarked with other comparator groups, in particular the NHS.* A 'rapid response' evaluation of the Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) Course running at a Scottish University, to assess whether the technology retraining programme for the long-term unemployed represented a good use of public money. Our report was completed within three weeks of its commission with a clear outline of the issues connected with the course, the views of the participants, success rates and unambiguous recommendations on the future of the programme. -

With responsibility for the Human Resources function in Scotland, I contributed to the development and implementation of the business strategy and our drive for quality and growth within Compass Scotland. 𝗢𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗷𝗼𝗯 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗱:· Developing and implementing an HR Strategy.· Developing Change Programmes and continually measuring progress and impact.· Evaluating HR’s contribution to the business via qualitative research.· Introducing a Sales Incentive Scheme and representing HR at sales meetings.· Conducting executive coaching sessions with members of the Executive team.· Financial responsibility for the HR budget and delivering significant savings.Compass won a contract to manage British Telecom's staff catering, which overnight doubled the size of the Scottish Region. On behalf of the main board in London, I was tasked with the project management of this contract and to assess the HR, legal and cultural implications of integrating this highly unionised multi-site contract with our existing business. In a complex project lasting several months, I took the lead role in planning for and then merging the BT contract with our existing business. This involved the development of a separate HR strategy to unite the differences in culture, contractual rights, HR policies and custom and practice.I managed and developed a team of HR, recruitment and training specialists. -
