TEDxYouthCroydon’s mission is to create a platform in Croydon for young people to celebrate ideas worth spreading locally and to raise the profile of the Borough.2011 saw the London riots erupt onto the streets of Croydon. In light of these events, we believe that TEDxYouthCroydon will shed a positive light on the young people of Croydon, who felt they were not being heard. We aim to give them back their voice and celebrate all the great things about the Borough of Croydon. TEDxYouthCroydon is part of the universal TEDxYouthDay which is a series of TEDx events happening in over 100 countries around the world coinciding with Universal Children’s Day in late November. Around 17,000 young people will be taking part in this very prestigious event. The TEDxYouthDay theme this year is SPARK.

I worked at a secure establishment for boys aged 10 to 17 with behaviour and emotional difficulties. Many of the young people having become involved in crime, drugs, absconding, sexual assaults, paedophilia and other anti-social behaviours. I worked extensively with these young people using cognitive behaviour therapy to change their behaviours and using positive reinforcement to build their confidence and self-esteem.
