ESRC/CASE funded PhD, researching the impacts of small-scale cultural events on town centre vitality - currently under-researched as focus is on impacts of mega events and cities. Involves researching economic, social and cultural impacts of these events on local economies/communities. Research funded by ESRC/RIBEN and Test Valley Borough Council.

Tourism marketing and events service operational management:development and implemenation of tourism marketing strategy, including digital marketing, CRM, brand development, development of Destination Romsey website. Budget management; PR and media work.

MSc in Managing Contemporary Global Issues with Environment and Development, Distinction. The dissertation evaluated the contribution made by the culture and heritage tourism sector to the economy of the North Wessex Downs AONB. It produced very interesting results.Modules studied: International Development, Theoretical Approaches to Contemporary Global Issues, International Relations, Health of Nations, Contemporary Environmental Issues, Management Responses to Contemporary Global Issues.

Managed the county-wide ‘days out in Hampshire’ marketing campaign aimed at residents and visitors. This included on and offline marketing communications, managing the PR agency, running promotional campaigns internally and externally. A second strand to the role was to act as North Hampshire Tourism Officer, providing support to tourism businesses in the north of the county.Selected achievements:*Successful launch of ‘culture-all’ website, including research for and copywriting of all content.*Launch of ‘culture-all’ campaign via a schools’ relay.*Launch of Facebook page promoting ‘culture-all’ campaign.

Winchester Tourism markets Winchester as a dynamic and creative visitor destination, thereby increasing visitor numbers and providing a boost to the local economy.Responsibilities:Management and promotion of Council-led events such as Winchester Open Weekend (linked to Heritage Open Days) and Making Merry Open Studios (arts and crafts weekend). Management of the events section of the council and tourism websites.Development of new initiatives with tourism partners, such as the Winchester Cathedral ice rink.Production of 'What's On in Winchester' publication.Managing events budget of £26k.Providing advice to community event organisers.Managing ad hoc projects, for example development and production of new leaflets such as the Meon and Itchen Valley Church Trails in 2006/7AchievementsInvited to facilitate event management workshop at TSE annual conference in September 2008Invited to speak at national Heritage Open Days workshops in 2005 and 2006.Over 3 years have doubled participation in Winchester Open Weekend and Making Merry Open Studios; both are now highly successful events for visitors and participants.Lead role in planning and liaising with all stakeholders thus ensuring success of Winchester Cathedral's ice rink in December 2006.Successful introduction of French markets to Winchester.

Successfully produced the annual Christmas catalogue, which included sourcing and forecasting sales for new products, deleting non-performing products, copywriting, designing layout and briefing Design Department.

At the time this company was the UK's leading pine furniture manufacturer.
