We work with kids of all ages along with adults to deliver ocean education in-person and online. We have also made it our mission to deliver our programs and educator resource kits to underserved communities in BC, Canada, and around the globe. Piloted boats to islands and spits within the atoll to census seals and turtles. Flipper tagged individual seals, conducted tag resights, and managed photo identification and resight database. Translocated weaned pups from areas of high shark predation threat to areas with lower predation risk. Conducted necropsies and collected tissue samples from dead seals.

Antarctica

Initiated and directed seabird research for a long-term ecosystem monitoring project on Livingston Island, Antarctica. Trained assistant. Banded penguins and skuas, daily resighting of banded birds. Measured, weighed, and deployed remote sensing and telemetry instruments on individual penguins. Compiled all data and submitted seasonal report. Assisted with studies on fur seal reproductive biology and foraging ecology, and elephant seal foraging behaviour. Measured, weighed, and deployed remote sensing and telemetry instruments on individual seals.

Antarctica

Investigated reproductive and demographic parameters, diet, and foraging ecology of penguins as part of a long-term ecosystem monitoring project in Antarctica. Same technical duties as above.

Johnstone Strait, Bc

Measured behavioural responses of Northern Resident killer whales to vessel traffic. Identified and followed individual orcas with a spotting scope. Tracked killer whale and vessel movement with theodolite.

Assessed the effects of human disturbance on Steller sea lions in southeast Alaska and BC. Collected abundance and behavioural data on sea lion colonies.
