For the past year, I have been working under one of my professors along with two other students, researching the effect that laser irradiation has on cell death. The relevance for this research includes medical applications of lasers such as laser tissue welding, in which it will be useful to predict the amount of cell damage based on laser specifications. As a part of this research, we have ventured out of the engineering field and into chemistry and biology. Working with partners from the chemistry department, we have learned how to section frozen tissue samples using a cryostat and how to stain these sectioned samples to be viewed under a microscope. During the spring semester of 2018, we presented our current findings at Kennesaw State University's Undergraduate Research Symposium. This was an opportunity to explain our processes and trends in the data we have collected so far. Despite graduating, I continue to work with my professor and the two other students who have also graduated. We all are continuing with this research past our graduation so that we can see it to its completion. Our research is still ongoing, and we hope to be able to publish our findings upon completion. As a student athlete, I have developed organizational and people skills that help me navigate the business world. Being a team player, I am able to keep the big picture in mind while focusing on team success rather than individual gain. As a hard worker, I understand what its like to put in difficult hours of work and learn from both my successes and failures. While playing on a Division I team and coaching youth programs, I have worked alongside a variety of skill levels and personalities, and am able to bring out the best in each individual in order to accomplish a goal. This experience has prepared me for maintaining positive team and client relations in the business world with all ages, whether they be older, my peers, or younger than me.Lacrosse was important, but not as important as my education means to me, so I made sure to never neglect my academics. As such, I earned several athletic awards relating to academics as well as earning deans list honors. By putting in extra hours outside of class, I was able to maintain a high GPA throughout my college career, graduating with a 3.79 earning Magna Cum Laude honors.
