About Elan Duensing, Lmsw

As a social worker and therapist, I am honored to accompany individuals both in their most difficult moments and on journeys of recovery. My interests within the field are many and include work with children and adolescents, in maternity care, on complex trauma, in education and social justice, and with parenthood as a developmental phase. I look forward to an expansive career with lessons to be learned from each new experience.My advanced practicum placement has been as a clinical social work intern at Mildred Elley, a medical trade school in NYC. I provide trauma-informed and strengths-based counseling to adult students under psychodynamic supervision, as well as do case-work as-needed, helping adult students find and connect with important resources. In my generalist placement, I conducted play therapy sessions and supported preschoolers' social-emotional learning and well-being at Hudson Guild, a non-profit serving diverse communities across the city. Working with children brings me much joy, and as I search for opportunities within this new career, the chance to work therapeutically with children and adolescents will always be a plus.In my past life (former career), I developed and assessed programs, managed teams within a non-profit, and taught swimming to people of all ages. I believe deeply in the power of community and of human relationships to overcome obstacles and facilitate growth.I have a deep interest in the work of healing complex trauma and interrupting the cycle of intergenerational trauma transmission, and I see a future in which I work with individuals of all ages to re-map their experience of attachment and to find safety in their bodies, their relationships, and the world.
