The Wuest Lab uses diverted total synthesis of natural products to discover novel precision antibiotics. I have undertaken two total synthesis projects involving analogs of carolacton, a secondary metabolite that shows targeted action against pathogenic S. mutans biofilm. The first project involved synthesizing a minimalist photo-probe to identify the protein target of a bioactive carolacton analog. The second project involved synthesizing a carolacton analog with a simplified aliphatic sidechain to probe the analog as a substrate for CH functionalization.

Volunteered to provide acute care, monitoring, and life support to critically injured and ill patients in the Emory community. Trained and did clinical rotations at Emory University Hospital Emergency Room and with American Medical Response.

I performed 100+ phone screens, posted fliers, and tabled to recruit participants for a malaria vaccine phase 1 clinical trial. I analyzed trial data to find a correlation between a post-vaccination drop in lymphocyte levels and side effects. I also transported, logged, and de-identified 1000+ human samples for the blinded trial. While at the NIH, I attended Hospital, Internal Medicine, and Pathology Grand Rounds and observed a full autopsy.

The Weinert Lab uses biochemical techniques to study how bacteria communicate with one another. I purified a bacterial globin coupled sensor protein to study how bacteria use oxygen to sense and respond to their environments.

I prepared anatomical donations for medical dissection, performed full cadaver dissection in Gross Anatomy class, and assisted with a Surgical Ocular Trauma workshop.
