A sophomore studying for a triple-major conjoint degree in commerce and property, here below are descriptions of my tertiary education journey:Upon completing my foundation programme as a top #1 student of the year in late 2021 at UP International College, the University of Auckland awarded me a high-achiever annual scholarship with an offer of place at Bachelor of Health Science in 2022. As part of the pathway to MBChB (Medicine) first-year entry, I passed all the required 2-semester courses with a GPA of 8.5/9 across the 4 core subjects (2 A+ and 2 A), which led me to be one of the shortlisted candidates for the medical MMI (Multiple-Mini Interview) that took place before the summer holidays in 2022.Unfortunately, the commencement of 2023 taught me a lot of harsh truth in life, starting from a rejection letter in January from UoA Medical School and leaving me with either an option to further my study in Bachelor of Health Science and re-apply to medical school once I graduate in 2024 or change my degree (i.e., repeating first-year) to another field of study for a fresh start in 2023 put me in a dilemma situation. Eventually, after considering multiple factors, I chose the latter option and quickly applied to secure a place in the Bachelor of Commerce/ Bachelor of Property Conjoint. Even though I knew it was a 180-degree shift from my previous field of study, this decision would allow me to see a university degree from a fresh perspective since it is an unrelated-to-science degree. Starting the first semester towards a new degree was challenging; I had to meet new friends, make new connections, and shift my mindset to connect with my peers. The ups and downs during that time taught me that adaptability is one of the keys to success in any area of life, hence leaving me with an only option to open a new chapter of my academic life in commerce. In addition to that newbie vibe, my nature of confidence triggered me to enroll in 10 courses per year and set an outstanding target for myself on how I want to perform academically to prove my ability in this new field. Finally, approaching the end of 2023 was very memorable as I reflected on what I had been through during the year and looked back on the little milestones that I was unexpectedly able to achieve along the way. As 2024 starts, I am ready to explore even more unique things in life; after knowing my academic capacity at University, I am eager to have the opportunity to work with real clients and push my limits to meet the goals of any entity as I am on my penultimate year of study.
