Dr. Everhart contacted experts and scheduled their speaking sessions in a well-organization and timely fashion. He used an efficient and accurate approach to requesting, obtaining and managing speakers. He also wrote press releases about each speaker and the topic of their session. He helped publicise the events with local and statewide media. Dr. Everhart has shown that he has the right tools, expertise, contacts, and relationships to handle this time-consuming and important job.

Egypt

Dr. Everhart helped farmers in Egypt with mechanization of tomato farming and harvesting by introducing inexpensive machines such as seeders, bed shapes, planters, weeders and harvesters. Tomatoes can be grown in all soil types found in Egypt, from pure sand to heavy clay. They can be grown all year round, with three harvests per year -- between July and October, November and February, and March to June. All types of tomatoes are grown in Egypt, including standard, beefsteak, cherry, and plum tomatoes. Hybrid tomato cultivars account for 75 percent of the production.

As a horticulture specialist with Iowa State University, Dr. Everhart wrote numerous Extension and research publications, as well as hundreds of articles for gardening magazines and newspapers. He was and still is a well known speaker at garden shows, conferences, and workshops throughout the United States and abroad. Dr. Everhart has helped hundreds of Master Gardeners, home gardeners, students, farmers, and other business people. During his tenure with Iowa State University, Dr. Everhart authored over sixty Extension and research publications. He also wrote hundreds of articles for gardening magazines and newspapers.

Azerbaijan

Dr. Everhart assisted farmers in Azerbaijan with cultural practices, management, and harvest of cash crops including honeydew melons, potatoes, tomatoes, etc. About 55 percent of its land is agricultural. The country straddles the border between Europe and Asia in the Caucasus region with an east coast on the Caspian Sea. It borders Russia to the north, Georgia and Armenia to the west, and Iran to the south. Azerbaijan is a former member of the Soviet Union. The country adopted its declaration of independence on August 30, 1991.

As a graduate student advisor for NOVA University, Dr. Everhart read and corrected research proposals and publication manuscripts. He advised and suggested research methodologies to graduate students in the off-campus Doctor of Education (Ed. D.) program.

Captain Everhart was the Executive Officer of a Military Police Company in the United States Army. He was responsible for training, intelligence, security, and other confidential duties. Everhart managed the day-to-day activities, such as planning, scheduling, and overseeing maintenance, training, record keeping, logistics, inventory, and supplies. He made sure the unit had everything it needed, from bullets to typing paper, and that the unit's equipment, from weapons to vehicles, was both adequate in number and in proper working order.

Dr. Everhart was the interim manager and supervisor responsible for day-to-day activities and administration of the potato germplasm collection at the Inter-Regional Potato Introduction Station (NRSP-6 or IR-1) at Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin.

Manhattan, Kansas

Eldon Everhart checked all of the horticulture greenhouses and the conservatory to make sure that the heating, cooling, ventilation, electrical, and other systems were functioning correctly at night and during the weekends. Break-ins, vandalism, electrical fires, freezing pipes, and other malfunctions and mishaps were reported to the appropriate personnel.
