The FGDC provides leadership and facilitates coordination between agencies, governments, academia, industry and professional organization in developing geographic information and technology critical to managing the nation. The FGDC also provides national and international leadership and advances the building of a Global Spatial Data Infrastructure (GSDI) for international compatibility as an important aspect of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure. Rich is responsible for providing broad leadership and interagency coordination and technical development activities with Federal, State, local and other organizations to support and implement geospatial capabilities and initiatives. This includes identifying information, technical and enterprise architecture requirements, leading interagency, interdisciplinary, and international committees and workgroups in standards development, and providing expertise in support of national and international initiatives. Leads interagency and national development of common approaches to the incorporation of geospatial capabilities in agency enterprise and technical architecture. Promotes access to geospatial assets in support of governmental business activities through the design and deployment of common registries that support service-oriented architecture. Promotes adoption of best architectural practices through Federal Enterprise Architecture guidance and support of the Geospatial Platform as an OMB recognized Shared Service.
