Board of Directors - RadioReverb, Brighton's Community Radio StationRadioReverb is Brighton’s not for profit radio station, broadcasting on 97.2FM, on DAB and on-line. The radio station is the heart and sound of the local community with its team of home -grown broadcasters producing a vibrant mix of locally relevant, advert free, speech and music programmes firmly rooted in the fabric of the city's community.RadioReverb started broadcasting in 2004 for two weeks during the Brighton Festival, and was then awarded a full community broadcasting licence in 2007. In 2016 we achieved a further five year extension of that licence to run until 2022.RadioReverb aims to provide an accessible, sustainable and accountable community radio for Brighton and Hove. Focusing on the needs of diverse groups and individuals, marginalised unrepresented by local radio, we have built a platform for discussion and empowerment through a diverse mix of locally relevant speech and music programmes, all produced by people in Brighton & Hove.

Lead Journalism Trainer at World Safety Conference in Wellington, NZ. Provided 4 day training for 10journalists from the 10 countries worst affected by road traffic accidents. In partnership with the World Health Organisation, Internews delivered the ‘Increasing Coverage, Decreasing Injuries’ programme.

Consultant Lead Trainer for ‘Tale of Two Cities’, advanced on-site training for journalists and editors from radio, TV, print and web based media outlets. Focus on HIV/AIDS and VMMC (Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision) reportage, encouraging informed and sustained coverage of the issues.

I designed and wrote the manual covering all aspects of training for radio journalists. The manual was initially used by journalists in South Sudan though it’s designed to be easily adapted for use in any other country. The curriculum consists of 9 units, each broken down into several chapters; it includes trainers’ notes, handouts, exercises and competency tests. The units cover an extensive range of topics from studio production and journalism skills to monitoring and evaluation, portrayal of Gender Based Violence/Violence Against Women in the media, how to cover elections, reporting for peace, archiving material and reporting on human rights amongst other subjects.

I managed all aspects of the community broadcast training programme, including programmatic supervision of 5 radio station managers and oversight management of 25-30 radio journalists in South Sudan.Supervised the Resident Journalism Advisors and oversaw the design and implementation of their work and training plans.Created and implemented comprehensive training and monitoring plans to ensure effective oversight of all stations.Led in the development of a comprehensive training manual and curriculum spanning all skills needed in community radio journalism.Led in the planning and implementation of comprehensive media literacy trainings for CSO partners, government, military and political officials and liaised directly with these groups throughout my time with the project.Worked closely with the radio technical manager, logistics and finance staff to keep stations organised, efficient and technically sound.Oversaw the gathering of data for monitoring and evaluation purposes, documented the achievements and challenges of the stations, managed the Internews Sudan internship programme, led the development of station advisory boards and income generation plans and assisted with the development of proposals for fundingopportunities.

Oversaw and coordinated a cadre of ‘beginner journalists’ to build the managerial and journalistic capacity of community radio stations in remote parts of South Sudan.Managed all aspects of the community broadcast training programme, including programmatic supervision of 4 radio station managers.Organised workshops and trained community radio managers and reporters on radio station management and production.Assisted in the development of a comprehensive training manual and curriculum spanning all skills needed in community radio journalism.Documented the achievements and challenges of the stations through training reports, newsletter articles, website submissions and photographs. Assisted in networking and sharing the story of the Sudan project with government officials, donors and other interested parties.Developed community radio station policies, structures, and general operating procedures to ensure smooth and professional running of the stations. Worked with consultants and mentors to manage the Internews Sudan mentoring programme and the Internews Sudan internship programme.Assisted in development of effective Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) of project and oversaw and reported on M&E activities, including monthly listening groups, surveys, programme logs and other formats.Coordinated with Internews partner organisations and other NGOs to facilitate creative programme sharing and collaboration.

CSV promotes social action through the media. It provides social action media services and training in media and ICT skills. I was responsible for the management and delivery of the CSV Action service at BBC London. Main DutiesDeveloped partnerships with a wide variety of organisations, ensuring appropriate outreach activities to complement social action campaigns.Worked with BBC tri-media (radio, TV, online) teams to produce innovative and exciting social action campaigns (e.g. RaW, Breathing Places), creative projects and training schemes in line with BBC Producer Guidelines and the CSV Action Desk Operational Guidelines.Produced regular feedback reports including action plans, campaign treatments, evaluation documents, financial reviews and monthly CSV Action reports.

Earshot was a not-for-profit arts and training organisation with audio production and training facilities based in Brighton. The mission was to develop and deliver media projects which produced benefits for society.Design, recruitment, administration and implementation of the 2yr ESF project, Radio2Work.Delivery of 'Transferable Radio Skills' to beneficiaries (56 people in total on 7 x 8 week courses). This included sessions on broadcast law, research, presenting and voice work.Development of, liaison with and management of 12 diverse partner organisations.Networking to raise company profile and strengthen industry links.Delivery of community outreach 'taster' sessions at various locations (e.g. LearnDirect Centres).

Lead team responsible for submitting the successful application to Ofcom for the community radio license as well as designing the strategy for launching a full-time FM station and developing the promotional model to support this launch.Elected by community station volunteers to represent them at board level (voted to board 2004 & 2005).Co-ordinated the volunteer programme and fundraising events.
