As part of the School of Modern Languages' on-going work supporting Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), the research project sought to understand the factors affecting undergraduate students’ decision to choose Modern Languages as a ‘third subject’, i.e. on a 'non-language degree pathway'. In particular the project investigated the significance of these factors for different genders.

Representing Think Pacific, I developed an action project for Graduate Women Fiji - an influential NGO working to empower young women through encouraging them to pursue their education. Motivated by a learning service mindset, I produced a comprehensive proposal suggesting strategies, resources and content for the successful implementation of their e-newsletter.My research predominantly focused on exploring the cultural context of Fiji and its National Development Plan to understand the challenges for SDGs 4 & 5 (Quality Education for All & Gender Equality) in the Pacific region.I also gained significant knowledge and skills in areas of International Development, NGO management, Marketing, Social Media campaigns, Fundraising & writing Grant Applications.

The Summer Teams Enterprise Programme (STEP) is a competitive summer programme where students are assigned to solve a real-life issue within the university. The program also facilitates weekly training and professional workshops to enhance skills like remote team-working, digital literacy, organisational skills, professional conduct, as well as individual and team reflection. Our team collaborated to create a series of podcasts to be featured on the careers website in response to the question: “How do we define what enterprise capabilities look like in real life?"
