School Counsellor
CurrentIn September 2022, I established my own School Counselling Service, providing onsite short-term counselling to students from Year Seven to Sixth Form. Since starting the role, I have set up my own referral, opt out and waiting list systems, which are continually triaged by myself. This ensures that students are seen promptly and provided with the most appropriate level of support for their needs. I also have experience signposting students where necessary, to external agencies such as private counsellors. In addition to setting up the Counselling Service, I also provide my own therapeutic resources including my sand tray, photocopiable resource books, and crafting materials. I store my paperwork in my lockable filing cabinet and regularly engage with external Supervision, in line with BACP Requirements. Between 2022-2023, I provided mentoring check-in services to students across the school, offering targeted students a weekly 10-15 minute well-being check-in. This provision was set up to support students who may not be suitable for Counselling but require ongoing pastoral support. Whilst this has since reduced to accommodate growing demands for my counselling services, I continue to provide wellbeing check ins and assessments to students throughout the school when required. As part of my role, I deliver psychoeducation throughout the school, helping students develop awareness around positive mental health and supporting their well-being. Since January 2024, I have placed more emphasis on preventative outreach within my role, by writing and delivering my own Exam Well-being Intervention Programme to Year 11s, in preparation for their Exam Leave.
