I assist with pre medical advising while leading the shadowing program for undergraduates. I give lectures regionally on primary and secondary prevention of coronary disease, Lipid management, and cardiology rehabilitation. Statewide,I represent Stanford as a member of the California Medical Leadership Forum for Prevention and Public Health. Nationally, I participate in the Million Hearts Initiative, an advisory/advocacy group for secondary prevention through cardiac rehabilitation funded by the CDC/CMS. I am the VBC leader for the Cardiovascular Division, leading initiatives to promote high quality cost-effective care.

In my Northern California regional role in health education, I wrote and edited more than 30 Clinical Skill Summaries posted on-line in our Clinical Library, intended to teach basic cardiology topics such as the management of angina, heart failure, and valvular disease to residents, internists, and family doctors. I edited and reviewed 30 Health Education topic reviews that are provided to patients and their families on basic cardiology issues such as myocardial infarction and atrial fibrillation used on our on-line web site: MDO (“my doctor online”). I served as the Regional Director for Cardiac Rehabilitation for 21 medical centers in Northern California. In this role, I created educational modules to train RN Care Managers and Physician Program Directors on the topics of smoking cessation, risk reduction, exercise prescription, and drug management. I have led dozens of Webinars and created interactive case studies to train nurses and physician on lipid management and post-MI drug management. For the Department of Medicine and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at our hospital, I have given more than 70 lectures on topics of women and heart disease, lipid management, and acute coronary syndrome, using interactive case studies. In my roles as Chief of Cardiology and Chair of the Chiefs of Cardiology (over 120 cardiologists at 21 medical centers within KP Northern California), I participated in systems planning, hospital planning, pharmacy formulary and new tech advising, cardiologist recruitment, and guidelines development. I led the echo lab at Kaiser Santa Clara for 25 years, supervising and training technicians, and adding stress echo, TEE, Cardiac CT, and CAC as technology advanced during my tenure. I have received regional and national awards for creating care management programs in Lipid Management, Cardiac Rehabilitation, and Heart Failure, and training RN, PharmD Care Managers, and MD program directors across Northern California.
