I am currently working as a Higher Healthcare Technical Officer at NHSBT Manchester, processing blood donations into therapeutic products for patients across the North of England. I have a first class degree in Biochemistry with Industrial Experience from the University of Manchester, with my year in industry being completed at NHS Mycology Reference Centre Manchester. The research I carried out during my placement year was on the topic of PCR to diagnose Pneumocystis pneumonia, and included facilitating a systematic review on the subject and comparing two commercial PCP PCR test kits. In my final year of university, I completed a research project on the effects of oestrogen starvation on the PIR2-GSK3β axis in keratinocyte cells. My research experience has enabled me to develop my laboratory skills including PCR, cell culture, Western Blot, amongst others.
