I discovered 20 years ago, that I could make music on computers and have pursued technology since. I'm driven by a fascination to learn and see the positive change technology brings.Beginning with PCs, systems administration, build and configuration on corporate platforms and then networking I saw the impact that the best tool applied in the best way (or not) could have on customers and staff. As well as business productivity and profit. While I was working in the networking space for a well known B2C I started to experiment with Cloud and DevOps.Cloud, and the methodologies required to realise value from using it, became my main focus. Desiring to master what I saw as the way forward I passed all available AWS exams. Not satisfied I had the knowledge about People and Process, I read The Phoenix Project, Lean Startup and many others, to grow as a leader in Business and Tech.Content in these books, reflect some of the 'ways of working' to which I gravitate. Through helping communities of practice form and leading them to desirable outcomes, I have inspired positive change and helped people to focus on innovation and removing waste. My first formally influential role was as a Cloud Architect, leading client engagements for migration and transformation. I truly believe that remaining hands on has allowed me to build strong rapport with my teams, and has been the key to creating great outcomes for colleagues and customers.I took on my first CTO position at ECS (now GlobalLogic) and focused on building out a capability and team that provided customer experience transformation to clients through Amazon Connect and the wider AWS Ecosystem. I personally led the first few engagements for banks and other enterprises, creating blended SI/Client teams centred around the AWS technology and the value being delivered to the customers. Before I left, I repeated this endeavour with an MLOps offering, which is being used and evolved by other Banks to make model management more efficient.Based on outcomes achieved with GlobalLogic, I took a position at Barclay's to improve engineering on a very large Amazon Connect migration and customer experience transformation. I have driven teams and helped the bank to progress by transforming ways of working, technology and customer experience. With direct line management of 100 engineers and influence over a further 150, we migrated way from Project thinking, to Product mindset.I have a great desire to positively impact people, so they can experience better relationships, through caring, culture and technology.

Co-FounderNopaque Limited Sep 2023 - PresentLondon, GbAnother day 1! Although technically I've spent a bit of time on it already... I've brought Nopaque into existence because we need more organisations that focus on difficult aspirations and maintain transparency in how they're going to do it. Nopaque literally is the opposite to Opaque and those that know me know I like to work transparently, with a good Vision and Mission and motivation to solve hard challenges. Solving the poor state of customer experience globally, and bringing the organisations of the world in line with offering First Point of Contact resolution, will test all my skills and knowledge, and those that work with me.The roadmap is set. Conversations are happening. In a month or two, Nopaque will bring a challenger product to the market that can be consumed on-demand and with scale, at a better price point than existing products. Mean while, we'll be talking to businesses about how they can begin moving toward better servicing for customers, understanding their expectations, aspirations and intent. -
Personal Goal PursuitCareer Break Aug 2023 - Sep 2023The time has come for a new chapter, a new day one. I have decided to leave the prestigious organisation I have been working for to pursue a career dream. A dream that I have told countless people about, in which every one of them said "go for it". A dream where the leadership, technical and product skills I have acquired over the 20+ years of my career can be released. A dream that will test these skills, my resolve and my determination. I know I won't take this journey alone. I know the passion I have for it is infectious. I know that the 'I' will become a 'we' and I can't wait to meet the people that decide to join in and adopt it as their career dream. I have learnt and accepted that I am a people leader capable of more than I gave myself credit for, that I am more of a 'we' type leader than an 'I' type leader.I plan to start this journey properly in September this year, after a well earned break with my family over the summer holidays. Placing focus on them. In my spare time however it will give me the space to reflect on the past, to make note of the mistakes I want to avoid in the future and to set up the foundations of this journey I and others will take, in a way that always puts people at the centre of what is being done. The beginnings of my journey have already started. Wheels are in motion. I am excited again. I decided to call the company I have started "Nopaque". This play on words will be at the core of this company's values, for everything it does will NOT be Opaque. It is intended that every interaction, between people that join the journey, or engage with it as a customer, will be treated openly, honestly and with complete clarity. If you think you can offer any great advice on starting a career dream, don't hesitate to reach out. Other perspectives are often the parts missing from our own puzzle. SPOILER: If you have experience in AWS, ChatGPT and Generative AI, LLMs, Microservices, Javascript or Python, I'm all ears.

Director, Head Of Engineering, Contact CentreBarclays Feb 2021 - Aug 2023London, GbIt's still day one and the team and I are always learning! At the core of my leadership principles is the focus on the people that create solutions that solve problems for those we serve, most importantly their wellbeing and enrichment of what they do, which leads to significant trust and reliable capability.I have applied this to the numerous areas that our people and teams work across and have helped many areas that are unrelated adopt new techniques in ways of working, tooling and technology. As the engineering lead for an area totalling 15 feature teams, it is my responsibility to insure we operate in the best way possible to make use of the yearly multi-million pound budget provided to improve interactions between customers and the bank. So far in my tenure I have transformed all skill disciplines in the area to adopt agile ways of working, moving to a product focus instead of project process. We have delivered numerous valuable changes to the platform, of which the most stand-out have been;- a new video service, built from ground up and based on Amazon Chime, improving high profile customer engagement and NPS scores,- one of the largest implementations of Amazon Connect Voice ID, helping to protect our customers and improve fraud detection; and,- a business facing dashboard that helps to obfuscate the complexity of the overall Amazon Connect platform and AWS Ecosystem that's used to drive efficiency in how we service customers. So far on this journey, I have increased engineering satisfaction and productivity by insuring teams are involved in the early stages of planning and design cycles. I have driven an increase in efficiency and improved the underlying flow of the value streams through which we deliver by introducing a shift left approach to testing and adopting a DevOps mindset within teams.Time to rinse and repeat, it is still day one! -
CtoEcs Mar 2019 - Feb 2021London, GbThis role has focused on the build out of new consultancy practices and modular software accelerators to help customers with their digital transformation, customer experience and data & analytics journeys. After working with peers on an identified opportunity with Amazon Connect and a large Retail Bank, we have scaled a team using Design Thinking, Lean and Agile into a well respected delivery consultancy and gained the AWS Solution Provider and Amazon Connect benchmarks. We are currently building similar offerings based on Amazon QuickSight and Amazon SageMaker. Our unique approach of "DevOps for Contact Centers" is proving highly valuable in an ecosystem where the transformation usually entails moving from antiquated data center based telephony to high velocity software based systems, requiring techniques such as CI/CD and TDD to fully embrace the opportunity to deliver value to customers at pace.Leaning on Lean, SAFe and Scrum frameworks to supply our unique Pod based blended teams, we focus on an operational transformation to underpin the success of our delivery teams. Customers immediately begin to see value in short cycles often increasing interest across large enterprises and resulting better stakeholder engagement. The story hasn't ended with consultancy and delivery, as we move the ECS organisation forward we look to create Marketplace and SaaS offerings by leveraging startup techniques, with our first releases coming at the end of 2020. -
