CurrentElek is a shareholder at Drummond Woodsum. As part of his privacy and technology and intellectual property practice, Elek helps companies acquire and protect trademarks, copyrights and other IP. As the head of the Privacy & Data Security Team, he also advises clients on compliance with state, federal, and international data privacy and security laws, including the GDPR, helps them create and negotiate complex privacy-focused technology agreements, and assists them in the development of information security and privacy programs (including data breach prevention, response, and crisis management) and drafting related policies and protocols. He works with public and private-sector employers on wage and hour issues, employee leave questions, hiring and firing employees, drug and alcohol testing at the state and federal level, drafting employment agreements for many types of positions, from administrative support staff to high-level medical service providers, and complying with state and federal employment laws. He also advises and represents schools in front of state and federal courts and administrative agencies on a wide range of issues, including student discipline and student rights; the employment of teachers, school administrators, and other employees; compliance with state and federal laws; and the implications of the use of various forms of technology.Elek is also a frequent presenter at conferences and events related to privacy & data security, labor and employment, and school law. He has also been an adjunct professor at the University of Southern Maine since 2013, teaching a course on school law for future school administrators.
