As a mentor, I guide students through the different phases of a research project including drafting a research question and creating an outline. Additionally, I gather useful sources such as APA citation help or academic articles for the different types of projects each student works on. Finally, I give thoughtful answers and solutions to each student with any inquiry regarding the project, research, or writing.

As a grants and database intern, I managed and organized the HIVE database regarding University-wide funding requests to ensure professors and students receive their funding requests for projects, travel, or new hires. Additionally, I researched through hundreds of federal, and private grants for the CRE and CRE partners to apply for primarily related to rural development, health, and education. I also assisted with a data visualization project in which I analyzed internal data collected from Career and Technical Training programs in Dubois County. I formatted the data into a digestible format for CRE staff, community partners, and the public to demonstrate CTE program areas of success, and where educational institutions and the local business sector can work together to improve the outcome of CTE programs.

As a heritage trails project intern, I worked with a small team in the Center for Rural Engagement to create the Heritage Trails Project. I conducted research and analyzed hundreds of historical sites throughout Indiana to determine compliance with project requirements. I synthesized the hundreds of sites collected to provide a list of sites that demonstrate Indiana's underrepresented histories such as Black History, Asian History, and LGBTQ+ History. Additionally, I summarized research for the project manager and analyzed survey responses from the general public to attain potential historical sites for the project. I also monitored and managed an internal database regarding the project time-line, contact lists, and historical site entry.

Intern with Congressional Representative Jim Baird's Office (IN-04).I worked directly with the legislative team in Congressman Baird's office to assist with policy research and weekly briefings for the Congressman. I sat in on committee meetings and took organized notes to then disseminate among the office staff and the Congressman. I organized, evaluated, and completed a long-term meeting briefing and memo organization project for hundreds of internal documents. Additionally, I completed a long-term research project that provided relevant precedent to analyze the potential effectiveness of, and gain support for proposed legislation regarding environmental degradation and the Endangered Species Act in the following session. Daily, I communicated with constituents on the Congressman's views, recent votes, and directed constituents to the correct district office or agency for assistance with state and federal agencies.

I worked directly under a Legislative Assistant (LA) to staff and assist a caseload of three State Representatives representing tens of thousands of constituents. As a legislative intern, I researched and drafted dozens of policy briefs and talking points on various issues for the LA and Representatives. I communicated with and responded to constituents' questions and needs on a daily basis to relay the positions and interests of the Representatives. I took notes for the Commission for Higher Education and the Commission for Improving the Status of Children and disseminated a final meeting briefing among stakeholders and Commission staff. I regularly tracked legislative bills via spreadsheets through the legislative process to keep legislators up-to-date on bill statuses.
