Currently I am working at Vertex Pharmaceuticals with an energized and enthusiastic group of researchers. We are using multiple screening approaches and cell based assays to explore new ways of treating sickle cell disease.When I was a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Stuart Orkin, my research focused on improving therapy for people with sickle cell disease. I used CRISPR/Cas9 genome engineering to investigate the role of DNA regulatory elements in both mouse and human globin gene expression. I was actively involved in the characterization of BCL11A DNA regulatory elements and defining their function in vivo.In graduate school I trained in stem cell biology and hematology to more fully understand the role of myocardin related transcription factors in megakaryocyte differentiation and platelet production.
